"Shadow Plays" is a First-Person Indie Horror Demo Game which places the players into the shoes of an arriving member of the Priory called Ordo Mortuus Vita. The Priory promises to heal wounds of the mind, and to revitalize the pains of the body. A specialized researcher in esoteric sciences has taken residency with full support from the Priory. His research hopes to further deepen the knowledge at what may lie beyond after death. His hopes are to make contact with the beyond, and see what secrets it is willing to reveal. Though not everything is as it seems, an investigation was prompted after an increase of missing people were being reported around the area, and coincidently a number of new faces have appeared at The Priory.

Enjoyed the demo playthrough, the atmosphere, graphics and the voice acting stood out the most for me! The movement felt a little slow at times. Being able to have some indication of what you can click on after hovering over it would be nice little thing to add imo. Everything else was done really well and will like to see wthe full game. Keep up the good work.

The game looks and feels amazing, aside from the slow movement but I feel it suites the gameplay style. I'm a big fan of the voice acting too, wasn't expecting that at all. The only issues I have are with the scares. (spoiler) there were 2 that I experienced and the first felt a bit buggy or out of place. The second was just a little cheesy lol but it's fine to have a couple of those. They just didn't feel like they fit into the game in my opinion, as if they weren't up the the high standard the rest of the game sets for itself. I'm going to share my experience but please keep in mind I was totally unaware this was a DEMO when I was playing. I had forgotten and thought it was the full game and that had me confused on a few things so please ignore those arguments lol. Regardless of any issues I still had a great time playing. Thank you very much for making it!

I'm not gonna lie, this voice actor brushes up on his English a little more, and this is 10/10 gold horn tier. The game itself is great on its own, but this mans voice is so fitting and awesome. Can't wait to see the full game.

So I enjoyed this game, BUT is it on purpose that I could only face one direction? Because if so, I did not like that aspect. Besides that though, it was a good horror experience.

I'm very impressed with this. Your scares were great, the atmosphere was perfection, but what got me was the voice acting. I was thoroughly impressed every time they spoke (and a little spooked) Phenomenal job.

played this for my 3 Scary games @1:13 Definitely add more action commands when you get close to objects. Spent a lot of time on the first door trying to get into the room with the bodies. But the atmosphere is dope

An interesting game. Had fun testing it.

The game does, indeed, look beautiful, though a few tweaks could be added.
Most of it has been said before - about the look controls and the slow walk speed.

There is also a slight issue where reading a not starts an audio clip. However, if you read another note or walk too far, other audio clips play over the top of them, making it super noisy.

The set dressing is amazing, though the pacing needs a little bit of work. It is nice and creepy, however our protagonist (who talks to himself) seems completely unfazed by the corpses hanging up around the place, though is shocked by a random ghost on the stairs.

Over all, loved the game and look forward to your progress with interest!

As the name suggests, the shadows in this game looked amazing!! Game looked, sounded and felt really great! The house instantly had me into immersion and was spooky right off the bat! The shadows, the sounds and everything really went together well and enhanced each other. The jump scare at the beginning was really unexpected and was well done! The subtle scares and spooks you put were good, even the hanged people and bodies really added to the environment.

Overall it was a great looking and feeling game, but major things holding it back (I felt at least) were the controls, camera and the movements of the game. The movement and camera were super congested and I had to hold 'W' to initiate any type of movement and had to turn my camera around to fiddle the character into movement and then manoeuvre my way back around to where I wanted to go. 

The camera felt... Wrong somehow? It kind of felt like it was being held back a little with resistance and the movement didn't feel like it was directly connected to the mouse (Though I have to say, that it did add a little to the game and made it spookier as it made the whole atmosphere also feel heavy and spooky) and hence took more 'effort' to move.

Oh and the audios were off levels. Some of the speech was louder than the others and I'm not sure if it was just me, but the spatial sound seemed off at the end.

Last thing would be the scare, where the camera moved towards the ghost lady, seemed really weird and I saw some other videos where it zoomed in way too close. My suggestion would be to not zoom the camera in and just make her peak around the corner and move away or walk/run down the stairs. That would add to the subtle scares as well as take up the spooky tone by a lot.

The above are just my thoughts on the game and just my suggestions. It was fantastic to experience and play and I really thought it was super fun!

Other than that, I have to say that the game felt really great! The shadow at the very end felt super, super thick and felt like it was enveloping the player and taking over everything. The running jump scare was also well done and scary (And I just realised that, that jump scare was connected to and foreshadowed by the one at the very beginning.)

So I had some issue with the controls, not being able to look up or down, which sucked because the environment is awesome and I wanted to look at everything. After watching a few videos though, it seems to be a buggy Unity issue and not a game issue, thankfully. So, any mention I make of the odd controls in the video can be disregarded since it was bugged when I played. 


That said, I really liked this and it has a lot of potential. I love the atmosphere, environment, models, voice acting, sounds and story so far. Aces Games mentioned the addition of a crosshair; I second that and think it's a really good idea. Jump scares don't always get me but, I really liked the first one! I had a lot of fun with this and I'm looking forward to seeing what you add in the future.

Oh that's pretty odd! You're actually the second person who has that kind of issues which is really weird. Thank you so much for the words and about the crosshair - there's actually a crosshair in the game I created, I just didn't like the fact that there is a white dot in the middle of the screen & it kinda messes up the view. I initially wanted the players to be able to enjoy the environment art without nothing in front of them. That's why I removed the entire character geometry along with the flashlight mesh. Great video you got there! Keep it up!

Interesting game though I admit there was a few things that could be tweaked as seen in my gameplay demonstration. But you did capture a great setting and I want to see more of this keep on creating my friend.

Hi there I played your game.

I have listed some of my thoughts. I hope you find it useful.

Pros

  • The logo intro is cool. Too loud sound effects though
  • Very nice visuals. The 3d modelling is very well made. Thumbs up
  • Great voice acting is always a plus
  • Overall the audio was great too. I miss some ambience sound effects though.

 Cons

  • Insanely low movement speed. You should increase that by a lot.
  • Not much gameplay other than reading and walking around. You should definitely consider adding more stuff for the player to do. Likewise I find it odd, there's a door half open, but the player is totally unable to enter. 
  • Missing crosshair. I recommend you put add a crosshair/text which highlights important objects (Raycast). I missed the vent. I had to watch it from anotherโ€™s playthrough.
  • A glitch where the player gets stuck in the debris downstairs near the stairs.

I didn't finish it because I didnโ€™t know, I could interact with the vent, even though I tried.

However, I like the concept. The game definitely has potential, and I would love to give it another try at some point. Keep it up!

I'll highly consider on fixing those issues although some of them were meant to be that way but hey I'm not the one playing the game, in this case you people are! I seem to have more troubles than anyone so far, the view would not make use of the mouse, I could not "interact" with the 6 cube going up the stairs, and other more minor issues.. but good work none the less! oh.. and yeah the walking speed... ;)

What's going on!

Thank you so much! Oh and I must say those aren't issues as far as I'm concerned. I've tested anything out, it's just sometimes Unreal Engine 4.26 likes to play games since it's a brand new version (unstable with a lot of bugs) so if you're having trouble with anything try to restart the game. As for the cursed cube you have to actually point your center straight into it, imagine you have a crosshair and try pointing it at the cube or try to get close enough in order to work. And for the record I just updated the project with faster walking speed.

I suggest you may want to check it out again, I made a couple improvements like making the character walk speed a bit faster, fixing the ''Back'' button from the Options Menu when clicked, added barricades in the corridor so the player won't get confused and still try to pass through and a couple other details.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I personally thought maybe the slower walking style would fit the small level, let's say if I had made the character walking speed faster the player could beat the entire demo game in less than 7 minutes and I would personally not prefer that. I created this to originally show off / display the atmospheric & sharp graphics so the player could take his time to walk around and take a close look at everything. But like I said this is my personal thoughts about the character walking speed. Here, it is all about what you guys think so I'll rigorously consider on improving the issue according to your kind feedback!

This game definitely has something going!

The game was very scary and fun. It was however a little rugged at times. I whish the hallway that you can not pass was actually blocked like the one you use the vent to bypass. And then I would whish that the trigger box for the vents were a little smaller as you can often end up entering it over and over haha. 

I must say I am impressed with the story and the formulation of the events that has happened! How did you make the reader so well? I would really like something like this myself!

Oh, I did not realize it was a demo, I will have to add that to the game description/title then. I have a playlist for demos and alike. I am glad my criticism could be of use to you, and of course I would make a vidio of a game like this! It is of great quality I would say! :) I noticed several grammatical errors in the notes but decided not to mention this in my feedback. If you need some proof reading, i would gladly help out. I can highlight the errors and write possible corrections next to them if you want me to.
